How to Raise Up Kitchen Cabinets

Tools and Materials

Instructions

1. Measure and mark the height of your new cabinets. Using a carpenter's level and measuring tape, determine the desired height of your cabinets. Mark this height on the walls and on the cabinets themselves. 2. Cut the 1x4 pine boards to length. Cut the 1x4 pine boards to the length of the cabinets. You will need two boards for each cabinet, one for the front and one for the back. 3. Attach the 1x4 pine boards to the cabinets. Place the 1x4 pine boards on the front and back of the cabinets, aligning them with the marks you made in step 1. Secure the boards to the cabinets with 3-inch wood screws. 4. Cut the toe kick boards to length. Cut the toe kick boards to the length of the cabinets. You will need one toe kick board for each cabinet. 5. Attach the toe kick boards to the cabinets. Place the toe kick boards on the bottom of the cabinets, aligning them with the bottom edge of the cabinets. Secure the toe kick boards to the cabinets with 1 1/4-inch wood screws. 6. Fill the nail holes and caulk the seams. Fill the nail holes and caulk the seams between the cabinets and the walls. Allow the caulk to dry completely. 7. Paint or stain the cabinets (optional). If you want to change the color of your cabinets, now is the time to paint or stain them. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely.
