How to Build an Open Shelf Kitchen Cabinet

Open shelf kitchen cabinets are a great way to add style and functionality to your kitchen. They are perfect for displaying your favorite dishes, cookbooks, and other kitchen essentials. Plus, they are relatively easy to build yourself.

Here are the essential steps on how to build an open shelf kitchen cabinet:

1. Gather your materials

You will need the following materials to build an open shelf kitchen cabinet:

1x12 pine boards
1x4 pine boards
3/4-inch plywood
Wood glue
1 1/4-inch wood screws
2 1/2-inch wood screws
Sandpaper
Paint or stain

2. Cut the boards

Cut the 1x12 pine boards to the following lengths:

2 pieces at 36 inches long
2 pieces at 24 inches long
1 piece at 18 inches long

Cut the 1x4 pine boards to the following lengths:

2 pieces at 36 inches long
2 pieces at 24 inches long

Cut the 3/4-inch plywood to the following size:

1 piece at 36 inches x 24 inches

3. Assemble the frame

Apply wood glue to the edges of the 1x12 pine boards and assemble them into a frame. Use 1 1/4-inch wood screws to secure the frame.

Attach the 1x4 pine boards to the inside of the frame, flush with the top and bottom edges. Use 1 1/4-inch wood screws to secure the boards.

4. Install the shelves

Place the 3/4-inch plywood shelf on top of the frame. Center the shelf and secure it with 2 1/2-inch wood screws.

If desired, you can install additional shelves. Simply cut additional pieces of 3/4-inch plywood to the desired size and secure them to the frame with 2 1/2-inch wood screws.
